It was great to be able to celebrate the re-opening of Bellfield at their family open day. Congrats to the team at Action Porty for all their hard work in achieving such the community buy out and for creating such a fantastic resource for the area.
As you may be aware, I've taken a serious interest in short term lets and the impact they are having across the constituency. This month I met with Council leader Adam McVey and Housing and Economy Convener Kate Campbell to discuss the issues and what actions the Council might be able to take.
I had a fascinating visit to Proteus at the BioQuarter. They have researchers from across a wide range of disciplines including biology, physics, chemistry and engineering working together on the diagnosis and management of lung disease. The technology they are creating is incredible and will have real, practical applications in clinical settings. Thanks to Helen, one of the Phd students, for showing me round and congratulations to her on winning the STEM for Britain 2018 award (among others!)
It was a pleasure to join Pride in the constituency and catch up with colleagues Joanna Cherry MP and Jenny Gilruth MSP. It's always a very positive event no matter what the weather decides to throw at us. But it's important to remember that while we've come a long way on equal rights. there's still a long way to go.
Thanks to Kezia Dugdale for getting MSPs, MPs and Councillors together for a cuppa as part of the Jo Cox 'More In Common' Great Get Together. It's a timely reminder that while we have many political differences, there's much that unites us.
