What can I do to help you?

As Member of the Westminster Parliament for Edinburgh East I represent around 100,000 constituents. Every year thousands of my constituents get in touch with me to request assistance with a wide variety of issues. With the help of my Caseworkers I can assist with most matters that are the responsibility of the UK Government and its agencies. These include:

  • Child Maintenance
  • Immigration
  • Pensions
  • Social Security and welfare
  • Tax

Broadly speaking I’m generally in Westminster during the week and in Edinburgh at weekends. We've set up a series of surgeries across the constituency. However you can always contact my office directly and my caseworkers will be able to help.

I always enjoy meeting constituents so I hold regular surgeries where you can come along, have a chat with me and let me know how I can help. You can see a schedule of my regular surgeries below. I am also now holding monthly ‘Street Surgeries’. I’m writing out to let people know I will be in the area and to get in contact if they would like me to pop in. If it’s easier you can get also in touch with me by calling my office on 0131 661 8023 or by sending an email to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. If you need specialist advice I can refer you to external organisations who will give you the help you need. A list of useful advice and support organisations in Edinburgh East is available here.

If the issue you need help with is the responsibility of the Scottish Government, such as Health, Education or Transport, then I may refer you to your local Member of the Scottish Parliament who may be better placed to assist you.

Similarly, if the matter is the responsibility of the City of Edinburgh Council, such as refuse collection, council housing or antisocial behaviour, then I may refer you to your local councillor who should be able to help.

With the help of my team I will always do my best to assist you. However, if we feel we are unable to progress your case any further we will give you the reason why and suggest who else may be able to help.

My office will always treat your personal information in the strictest confidence, in line with data protection rules.
