Tommy has a strong team to help him respond to constituency requests. All of his staff are based in the Edinburgh East constituency. You can find out a bit more about them below.
Danny previously worked for Kenny MacAskill MSP having become actively involved in politics during the indyref. He joined the SNP afterwards and was very active in Tommy’s first campaign.
He was a campaign manager for the local government elections and was Deputy Campaign Coordinator for Tommy during his second Westminster election campaign.
Danny spends a large amount of his time supporting constituents as a caseworker – helping those having a problem with a UK Government Department.
Danny leads on monitoring significant planning applications in the constituency and on community engagement - liaising with charities, local organisations and community councils. He also takes on specific ad-hoc projects, for example researching the implications of boundary changes or supporting campaigns such as WASPI.
Before politics Danny worked for a Market Research company.
Aside from politics, his interests include literature, history, philosophy, football (especially Hibs and Scotland), walking and eating.
Kate is now working part-time for Tommy since being elected as a councillor for Portobello-Craigmillar in May 2017.
Kate became politically active during the referendum campaign, joining the SNP afterwards and campaigning for all subsequent elections. She was previously the IT Communications Officer at the SNP Edinburgh City Association where she created their website.
Her role in the office involves supporting Roz and Tommy with communications.
Kate is passionate about housing, homelessness and tackling inequality. She now has the role of Homelessness Champion at the Council and is working towards ending the use of B&Bs and putting an end to rough sleeping in the city.
Kate graduated as a director of film and television and won a new talent BAFTA for a film she co-directed. Kate previously worked as a project supervisor, managing teams of researchers.
Roz joined the SNP after the referendum and quickly became active, as the Northfield Campaign Coordinator for Tommy’s first general election campaign and as women’s officer for her local SNP branch.
As Policy Development Officer for the SNP Edinburgh City Association Roz had an instrumental role in putting together the Edinburgh manifesto for the Local Government elections. She was also the driving force behind the first SNP Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Assembly that had taken place for many years.
During the 2017 Westminster election Roz was Tommy’s Campaign Manager.
Later that year she was elected onto the SNP National Executive Committee, coming first in the ballot which is voted on by members attending National Conference.
As Chief of Staff Roz manages the office and team in the constituency and supports Tommy in his work at Westminster. She manages communications, campaigns, policy development and research and leads in supporting Tommy’s political and parliamentary work.
Roz is a qualified Educational Psychologist and retains her interest in this field.
Simon joined Tommy’s team after several years working in the Council both in Welfare Rights and Housing. In his role Simon takes a lead on casework, supporting individual constituents requiring assistance and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
In this role he also often identifies specific problems that may be happening as a direct result of Tory policies at Westminster. He would then lead on campaigns to challenge unfair legislation or improve the way that policy is implemented.
Simon enjoys a game of tennis and is a big fan of Andy Murray. He has recently taken up cycling to work. He also enjoys a spot of home cooking – especially with a large glass of red wine.
Nicola joined the team in 2017 and is responsible for the smooth running of Tommy’s diary (not an easy task!) as well as other administrative tasks in the office.
Nicola is also an active member of the SNP and was very involved in Tommy’s recent election campaign. She was also Campaign Manager during the Local Government elections in Southside-Newington.
Her background is in marketing and events, before running a small business for her family. In her spare time she volunteers with Girlguiding Edinburgh, and is a City-wide adviser for Rainbow Guides.
